4-H
Contact: Frank Yancey
The Lewis County 4-H program is open to all youth in grades 4-12. Members can expect to learn valuable life skills while having fun and meeting new friends. Membership is free.
School Clubs
Lewis County 4-H Clubs meet once a month from October to April. 4-H'ers participate in hands-on learning activities, games, and skill building contests like public speaking, poster, photography, and demonstration.
4-H Horse Club
The Lewis County 4-H Rough Riders Horse Club teaches kids about horse care and safety through monthly meetings, clinics, field trips, and contests. You don't need a horse to join and participate!
Home School 4-H Club
Home schooled youth can participate in a wide range of activities including cookie baking, demonstrations, field trips, inventions and a science fair.
Special Interest Activities
Youth can become involved in a variety of fun activities including art, gardening, forestry judging, leadership, livestock shows, skeateboarding, and wildlife food plot contests.
Service Learning Projects
4-H youth can help their community through service learning projects. These projects can beautify the community, educate people, or assist those in need.
Volunteers
Volunteers are essential to the 4-H program in Lewis County. Openings are available for people who would like to share their knowledge and skills with young people, no experience necessary. The Extension Office provides training and support to anyone wishing to serve as a 4-H project group leader or workshop leader.
4-H Creek Stomp
The 4-H Creek Stomp provides youth with the opportunity to explore stream life hands-on. Kids learn about habitat, water quality, fish, and macroinvertebrates. In 2003, the home school 4-H club received a Stream Savers Grant to be used for expansion on the Creek Stomp project.
